Sewing Workshops
Planet Comicon Kansas City and Missouri Sewing Machine Co. bring you Sewing Workshops!
These workshops will be taught on site by Casey Renee Cosplay and Floral Moon Cosplay. They will take place in room 2104A in Bartle Hall at the Kansas City Convention Center during the event. Please see time for classes/workshops. All workshops come with a fee. You can get your tickets through the links below each class. Space is limited to 24 per class, so reserve your space NOW! All Sewing Machines are provided by Missouri Sewing Machine Company! All Workshops will take place in room 2104A in the Kansas City City Convention Center. You must have a valid Planet Comicon credential to participate in the workshops (separate fee required).
Friday, March 27 – 2:00pm – 3:00pm – Sewing 101 (Dice Bag) ($26.50+fees) – Contain your math rocks with this beginner-friendly sewing class! Choose your fabric from a selection of precut choices! We will be making a cotton drawstring bag perfect for storing at least one set of dice. In this class, learn your way around a sewing machine on our Janome household machines. We will cover machine operating basics and practice sewing on scrap fabric. Once we are ready to go, we will pin and sew dice bags using a straight stitch. By the end of class, students will have a brand-new dice bag they made themselves! This class is suitable for students 16+ or 13-15 if a parent is present to assist the student. Students should come with a desire to learn and the ability to follow along with this hour-long class. Materials will be provided, cut, and ready to sew! Instructed by Floral Moon Cosplay

Friday, March 27 – 3:30am – 5:30pm – How to Make a Hoop Skirt ($52+fees) –
Learn how to sew a hoop skirt to wear under all of your ball gowns!
In this class you will learn about the different materials used to make a hoop structure. You will also get to use some high quality materials to make a mini hoop skirt that is yours to take home with you. You need basic sewing machine knowledge to take this class, how to thread a needle and tie a knot for hand sewing as well as be 16 or older to take this class.

Friday, March 27 – 5:30am – 6:30pm – Sew your Own Book Markers – 2 styles! ($25+fees)
This one-hour beginner class is perfect for newer and first-time sewists and creative fans ready to try something new. Learn the basics of straight stitching while making two fun, fandom-friendly projects: a fabric corner bookmark and an elastic pocket bookmark—perfect for holding pens, markers, for your con planner. No experience needed, just bring your curiosity and creativity!

Saturday, March 28 – 3:30pm – 5:30pm – Embroidery Stitch Sampler ($31.60+fees)
This class will teach you 9 different embroidery stitches to get you started on any hand embroidery project. You will make a physical sample that you can refer to throughout your embroidery journey. You don’t need any previous knowledge to take this class but if you know how to thread a needle and tie a knot prior to class that’ll be super helpful to getting started. Sunday, March 29 – 11:00pm – 1:30pm – Introduction to Tambour Embroidery ($41.80+fees) – Tambour embroidery is a couture sewing technique used to make detailed embroidered pieces of all sizes. It’s used to make costumes for tv, film and Broadway, as well as in couture fashion. This class will teach the chain stitch which is the foundation of Tambour and from there we will build upon that foundation with beads and sequins. Since this technique is so unique to itself there is no prior experience needed however dexterity and patience are highly recommended for this technique. The class includes hands-on practice with the technique as well as a project kit that can be taken home to further build the skill. I also include a digital version of this class that you get to take home and practice at your own pace.
