Pokemon Gaming League Challenge

Are you a Pokémon Trainer with dreams of greatness? Join our Pokémon Gym Battle and put your skills to the test! Train, strategize, and challenge Gym Leaders throughout the convention. Make sure to bring your Nintendo Switch and your copy of Pokemon Scarlet or Violet! Details down below.

All three stores have worked hard to provide you with some great tabletop alternatives. Most are free of charge and some might cost a small fee.  Here is a description of what each store is offering:

Join us Sunday, March 23rd for an Epic Dungeons and Dragons game at Planet Comicon, sponsored by ReRoll Tavern!

“As a beastly army approached Ten-Towns from the south, heroes take the lead in fortifications and defense. But can the heroes’ optimistic hard work overcome the worst enemy – the towns’ distrust of one another?”

This play through is of the Epic D&D Adventure DDEP 10-01 “Terror in Ten Towns” and is open to any Adventurers League Characters from level 1 through 4, encompassing twenty tables working in tandem to complete the quest objectives. This is also a Charity Epic game, as detailed further below.

The Epic will be held in Bartle Hall in the Planet Comicon convention floor’s Tabletop Gaming Room and can accommodate up to 140 players at once! We will provide dice, miniatures, maps, blank character sheets, pencils and anything else you might need, including pre-made Level 3 characters for new players. All we need is you!

There will be twenty Tier-1 Tables for characters level 1-4, Each table will be able to accommodate up to seven players at a time. Players may either use their own Adventurers League legal characters or a pre-generated character for the event.

With the release of the 2024 Player’s Handbook, Adventurers League Rules stipulate that any character created using the 2014 Player’s Handbook must be updated to conform to the 2024 Player’s Handbook. A character using the 2014 Player’s Handbook may still participate in this Epic, but must be updated at the end of the event to match the 2024 Player’s Handbook before joining a future event.

Player sign-in will begin at Noon, with game play starting firmly at 1:00pm. Since this is a timed event, players not seated by 1:00pm will not be able to participate in the Event. This will be a four hour game, ending at 5:00pm.

Tickets for this event are available for Free so you can reserve your seat at the table. There is no cost to participate, however players will need a Planet Comicon convention badge in order to enter Bartle Hall and join the Epic. Walk-in players without advance ticket reservations are welcome to play, with seating preference given to players who register in advance and have a ticket. Any player who has not claimed their ticketed seat by 12:30pm is subject to having their seat given to a walk-in player.

Due to the nature of such large events, some tables may be rearranged or folded together before the event begins, to facilitate the best possible gaming experience. For example, a table with two players and a table with three players may be combined into a single table of five players, or two table of six players may be split into three tables of four players, and so forth. This is to ensure the best possible gaming experience for all participants. We will do our best not to split up any groups that wish to play together when doing this, and will do our best to ensure all players get to participate in the Epic.

 This is a Charity Epic game, and as such you will have the opportunity to support Children’s Mercy Hospital by playing in this Epic! Players are permitted to purchase ReRolls for their d20s during this event by donating $1 to Children’s Mercy. Further, a player may donate $20 to place their dice with the 20 facing up, and count it as a roll of a Natural 20. 100% of the proceeds from ReRoll donations will go directly to Children’s Mercy Hospital!

A charity ReRoll does not grant advantage and does not negate disadvantage, it’s just a ReRoll and we’re not creating new rules, but a player can ReRoll that d20 as long as they keep donating. Any player or spectator can purchase a ReRoll for any other player, so long as the d20 roll does not result in a negative experience, such as forcing a character to fail a saving throw, getting the character killed/rendered unconscious, and so on. Players can do this as many times as they desire on a player’s d20 roll. Dungeon Masters will not be allowed to purchase ReRolls for their NPCs.

Drop-in anytime during the following timeline. Each Learn to Play session will take approximately 20-30 minutes.

Free – Friday 5-8pm,  Saturday 10am-6pm, Sunday 10am-2pm 

• Pokemon Card Game – Become the very best! Come learn to play the Pokemon Trading card game! Staff or volunteers   from Level One Game Shop are available to teach basic rules of the game. 
• Magic: The Gathering – Discover the basics of Magic! From spells to creatures to combat, explore the world of Magic! 
• Star Wars Unlimited Join the galaxy far far away! Staff or volunteers from Level One Game Shop are available to teach basic rules of the game. 
• Disney Lorcana – Enter the Great Illuminary! Come learn to play Disney Lorcana Card Game. Staff or volunteers from Level One Game Shop are available to teach basic rules of the game.

Play & Take Board Games 

All weekend, free to enter – winners announced Sunday at 1:00pm

Try out a new board game and earn the chance of taking it home! Several board games with the chance to win, bring a friend or meet someone new! Our board game experts can help teach games. 2 player games, and group games. Includes party games, strategy games, and two player games. 

Late Night Magic: The Gathering Commander Party

Friday 8-10pm, Free

Play late night Commander after the con! All participants will receive promo Magic: The Gathering cards. Everyone will also receive a Commander Bingo Card, the first person in each pod to get a Bingo will receive additional prizing! The more you fill out, the more prizes you can win, including Planet Comicon Merch tickets!

Late Night Magic: The Gathering Jumpstart Party

Friday 8-10pm, $15

Didn’t bring a Commander deck? No problem! Grab three Jumpstart packs and choose two to jump into battle, ticket pricing includes your Jumpstart pack per win prizing with bonuses for 0-3 and 0-3 records.

Late Night Blood on the Clocktower

Saturday 8-10pm, Free – learn to play session at 7:30pm

Get ready for an evening of intrigue, deception, and deduction at Blood on the Clocktower! This game has been making a splash at gaming conventions across the country, including GenCon and Pax Unplugged. Join us in the Tabletop Gaming Room at 8:00pm for a thrilling experience where anything can happen.

Whether you’re a seasoned player or a complete beginner, there’s a spot for you! New players are encouraged to arrive at 7:30pm for an exclusive learning session with one of our experienced game masters.

 We’ll have two separate groups: one for newcomers and another for intermediate or experienced players. Will the forces of good triumph, or will evil take the upper hand? Come find out!

 Each gaming session will be capped at 15 players, so make sure to register early at the Level One Game Shop booth in the Tabletop Gaming Room

Decorate your own Deck Box 

Friday & Saturday, $10

Ticket price includes deck box and materials to decorate your own deck box! Come to the tabletop room to customize a deck box for yourself or as a gift! Once you are finished painting, Level One will seal in your project for you – deck boxes will be ready for pickup on Sunday morning. If you prefer to finish it up at home yourself, let us know! We will hold onto your deck box to dry until you are ready to bring it home.

 Magic the Gathering – Command Zone

All Weekend, Free

Open Play Commander in the tabletop gaming room all weekend long! Step into the Command Zone for your preferred playstyle: Social, Challenging, or Competitive. Strixhaven library decks will be available to borrow, preconstructed decks also available for purchase.

 On-Demand Events 

Pokemon Single Pack Ditto Battle, $10

Recommended for advanced players, as seen at World Championship Pokemon Tournament. Open a single pack, add in 10 energy. 4 players required to start. All participants receives a booster pack, winner receives a bonus pack

Magic: The Gathering Jumpstart, $15

Grab two Jumpstart packs and jump into battle, pack per win prizing with bonuses for 0-3 and 0-3 records.

Team Puzzle Competition 

Saturday 1pm, $30 per team or $15 per person *Pricing subject to change based on prizing*

Grab a teammate and join us for a Puzzle Competition sponsored by Kansas City Puzzle Company! Each two-player team will receive a copy of the 500 piece puzzle upon entry, and the first-place teams will walk away with exciting additional prizes. The competition will take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Entry is $15 per person or $30 per team.

 Group and Family Puzzle Competition

Grab your friends and family and join us for a Puzzle Competition sponsored by Kansas City Puzzle Company! Each four-player team will receive a copy of the 500 piece puzzle upon entry, and the first-place teams will walk away with exciting additional prizes. The competition will take about 1.5 hours. $30 per team.

Pokemon Gym Battle: Become a Pokemon Master!

Are you a Pokémon Trainer with dreams of greatness? Join our Pokémon Gym Battle and put your skills to the test! Train, strategize, and challenge Gym Leaders throughout the convention. Prove your mettle and earn stamps as you work your way towards becoming the ultimate Pokémon Master and qualify for the Elite Four at Planet Anime!  

Saturday and Sunday of the con, throughout the convention, there will be 4 gyms where only the bravest trainers will take on the gym leaders! Make sure to bring your Nintendo Switch and your copy of Pokemon Scarlet or Violet!
