Riccardo Federici was born in Rome on September 2, 1976. He developed an early interest in drawing and painting while also pursuing music as a drummer. After obtaining his art diploma, he attended the Faculty of Architecture at “La Sapienza” University of Rome while simultaneously studying physiology.
During this period, he created anatomical illustrations, children’s comic strips, and advertising campaign illustrations until 2005, when he signed a publishing contract for two comic books, “La Madone de Pellini 1-2.” In 2009, he took over the graphic work on “Saria,” originally begun by renowned comic artist Paolo Serpieri. Each page of that work is essentially a painting, as becomes immediately apparent when viewing it.
His creative ambitions led him beyond comics to oil painting and sculpture, though he never abandoned his comic book roots. Instead, he sought to transcend traditional boundaries by incorporating cutting-edge concepts and materials into his work. Federici became the first comic artist to have his works exhibited at the Biennale of Rome, displayed alongside the work of leading contemporary painters and photographers.
Federici works as an illustrator, comic artist, concept artist, and storyboard artist for major companies including DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Dynamite Entertainment, Dark Horse, Blizzard Entertainment, Wizards of the Coast, XM Studios, and others. Simultaneously, he creates original artworks for private collectors and conducts workshops on painting, illustration, comics, and concept design throughout Europe.
