Your community needs you! Blood supplies in the KC area are critically low and you can make a difference! In cooperation with Planet’s longtime partner, the Community Blood Center, and our friends at Hy-Vee Arena, our Planet Strikes Back weekend launches with a blood drive on Thursday, August 13, noon to 6pm. Location is the Hy-Vee Arena and pre-registration is encouraged. Walk-ins will be allowed based upon availability. His credits include Preacher, The Boys (both adapted for TV), Hitman, Crossed and successful runs on The Punisher and Fury for Marvel Comics. He is particularly known for his war comics, such as Battlefields, War Story, Sara and the recent revival of classic British character Johnny Red. US Toy’s Gel E Bean interviews Jeremy Palko and Ann Mahoney two rising stars in TV and movies. Jeremy found his first speaking role in the film Never Back Down. Jeremy has since gone on to play numerous parts in such television shows as The Vampire Diaries, Are We There Yet?, Burn Notice, The Middle, and Sleepy Hollow. Most recently, Jeremy can be found on the Emmy Nominated show Bloodline, as Nicholas Widmark and Andy on AMC’s The Walking Dead. Shortly after Ann Mahoney was born in Rochester, NY her family moved to New Orleans. After dedicating herself to the craft of acting at the tender age of 9, she went on to get her BA in Acting from Greensboro College, and her MFA in Acting from UCONN, studying Japanese theatre master Tadashi Suzuki’s Suzuki Method of Actor Training. She appeared onstage at Long Wharf Theatre alongside Tony winners Jefferson Mays, and Frank Woods in Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead, and starred in Dream Play at The Berkshire Theatre Festival. Ramin Bahrani, who directed Ann in 99 Homes, called her scenes “the heart of the film”, and film critic Sheila O’Malley from RogerEbert.com concurred saying, “The door-to-door sequences are masterful.

B. CLAY MOORE has written for virtually ever major North American publisher. He’s co-created a number of series for a variety of publishers, including HAWAIIAN DICK and BATTLE HYMN at Image Comics, JSA LIBERTY FILES: THE WHISTLING SKULL for DC Comics, THE LEADING MAN for Oni Press, both SAVAGE and KILLERS for Valiant Comics, BILLY SMOKE for Macroverse, and the upcoming ENDLESS SUMMER: DEAD MAN’S CURVE for Insight Comics. BALDEMAR RIVAS is an up-and-coming comicbook artist in Kansas City. He is the artist and co-creator of “Unearth” with writers, Kyle Strahm(Spread) and Cullen Bunn(The Sixth Gun, X-Men Blue). Baldemar has done Covers for Image, IDW, Valiant, and Lion forge. He likes to draw monkeys. JEREMY HAUN is a freelance comics creator who has worked for the biggest and best publishers in the business. He’s currently co-writing and drawing the hit series THE BEAUTY with Jason A. Hurley. KYLE STRAHM has been a freelance comic book creator since 2006. He’s the co-creator of UNEARTH and SPREAD, both published by Image Comics. In addition to Image, he’s had work published by Marvel Comics, DC Entertainment, Aftershock, Todd McFarlane Productions, IDW Publishing, Dark Horse, Dynamite, Lion Forge, Valiant Entertainment, Black Mask, and others. As an adjunct professor, Kyle teaches Illustration to seniors at the Kansas City Art Institute. He lives and works in Kansas City, Missouri.

Set your Phasers to Standby and leave hailing frequencies open! Tune into this livestream panel featuring Star Trek writers Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore, with artist Megan Levens. Dayton Ward is a science fiction author primarily known for his Star Trek novels and short stories, which began with publication in the Strange New Worlds anthology series. Kevin Dilmore was a newspaper reporter and long-time contributing writer to Star Trek Communicator Magazine before breaking into fiction writing. In addition to novels and short stories, both solo and with writing partner Dayton Ward, Kevin also contributed the author interviews in 2003’s “Star Trek: Signature Collection” releases. Megan Levens Has Drawn for IDW Comics, Dark Horse Comics with titles including “Buffy,” “Star Trek,” “Rick and Morty,” and “Madame Frankenstein.” This colorful behind the scenes crew will provide a lively discussion of all things Star Trek.

“Bill began his career as an illustrator, painting dozens of movie posters including many for Walt Disney Pictures, such as The Little Mermaid, Bambi, Peter Pan, Cinderella, and The Jungle Book. When Matt Groening founded Bongo Comics, Bill was on board as art director and drew the very first Simpsons comic. He soon took on the role of Creative Director, editing Bongo’s entire output, and writing and drawing stories and covers. In addition to his Bongo work, Bill has created thousands of Simpsons and Futurama drawings for T-shirts, video games, posters, toy packaging, books, calendars, limited edition prints, etc. Bill also worked with Groening on early character designs for the Futurama TV series and served as series Art Director. And he recently worked as character designer and artist on Groening’s Netflix series, Disenchantment.”

Bobby Holland Hanton is a stuntman/actor and has most notably worked for 8 years as Chris Hemsworth’s Stunt Double! Bobby has performed in 47 full feature movies, alongside such luminaries as Josh Brolin, Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe and many more. He has worked for directing greats like JJ Abrams, Ron Howard, Chris Nolan, Steven Spielberg, Taika Waititi and Ridley Scott. Bobby’s career includes winning 7 SAG Awards. Lee Charles is also a stuntman/actor. He became a six-time World Kickboxing Champion. By 2005, he embarked on his journey to the United States to pursue a career in Hollywood. In West Hollywood, Los Angeles, Lee eventually met with one of his idols, Benny Urquidez. Through Benny “The Jet”, Lee was invited to the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. He soon became a member of Benny’s stunt team. Debuting in 2008, Lee has worked in films including Dracula Untold (2014), Viking Destiny (2018) and The Marine 6: Close Quarters (2018), Gangs of London (2020), I am Vengence (2020) As a stuntman Lee has appeared in many features and is currently on set filming The Batman. Gel E. Bean will host the panel and find out more about what life as a stuntman and actor is all about.

Livestream on Planet’s Facebook Page. US Toy’s Gel E Bean hosts acclaimed puppeteer Bill Diamond who will take us through his studio!! At the age of 22, Diamond was introduced to Muppet’s creator, Jim Henson, who hired him as a freelance assistant at Henson Associates HA! New York offices. In 1976, Diamond created his production company, Bill Diamond Productions. Diamond produced and directed multiple television series in the 80’s and 90’s including, Stuffy’s Place, The Land of the Moonshins, and Dr. Rock’s Dinosaur Adventures, which appeared on Fox. In 2016, The Jim Henson Company sponsored a fan film competition held on The Dark Crystal website. The competition invited fans to create and submit animated short films inspired by the Jim Henson film. Bill Diamond Productions submitted a short film for the competition dedicated to the memory of his friend John Henson titled, “Rise of the Skeksis”, and received an honorable mention. In 2017 he was recruited by Stan Winston’s School of Character arts to teach a video seminar class on puppet performance. In 2015, Diamond won his first Emmy Award for his work on the YES Network’s “Yankees Post Game Show – Mo’s Last Home Game” as the lighting director. In 2017, he won his second Emmy for set design on the YES Network for “Brooklyn Nets Specialty Set Design”, and was nominated for another for lighting director for YES’s “Brooklyn Nets Specialty Look”.

Bean and WIlliam Holmes, an international leader of the Star Wars Costuming groups will lead an exciting exploration into Spencer’s career! Spencer is considered to be one of the best in his specialization of Special Creature performance. Spencer dreamed of becoming an actor from a young age. Lacking any clear route toward his ambition and growing to be a robust 6’ 8” man, he became involved in kick-boxing and eventually was crowned British-Welsh Champion. A photographer took a picture for Spencer’s mother’s mantelpiece and suggested that he approach an agent in London as he had a ‘great look,’ thus the passion for acting was rekindled. Spencer has played more than 35 characters, the most iconic including the Mean Guard in Guardians of the Galaxy, Luca Brazzi in Men in Black International, the Werewolf in Harry Potter, Killiwog in Green Lantern (Movie), Lead Dreg in Orphan 55 (Dr. Who) and the iconic Darth Vader in Star Wars: Rogue One.

He worked on films and television shows such as Hunger Games, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Trek, Walking Dead Titanic and Batman to name a few. He’s known around the world for his YouTube tutorials teaching cosplayers how to make foam armor and props. After many years of working in Hollywood, Evil Ted decided it was time to take all the tips and tricks he learned over the years and make them available to the everyday builder, he wants to take the intimidation out of building. He is a firm believer that it’s passion over talent, and that anyone can learn to build. He loves cosplay and the community and loves supporting and assisting new builders in the learning process.
