KANSAS CITY, January 9, 2017 — The heroes at Planet Comicon Kansas City often wear tights, but they don’t always appear in comic books. Professional wrestling icon Ric Flair, a.k.a. Nature Boy, is scheduled to appear at the pop culture fan event on Saturday, April 29th and Sunday, April 30th.
Flair is a retired professional wrestler signed to WWE under its Legends program. Considered by many to be the greatest professional wrestler of all time, Flair has cultivated a legacy over a career that spans 40 years. He is noted for his tenures with the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, later WWE), and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). Since the mid-1970s, he has used the moniker the “Nature Boy”.
“We pride ourselves on booking guests that appear to a wide variety of interests,” Chief Marketing Officer Kirk Chritton said. “Other wrestling legends have appeared at our show in the past, and their appeal is astounding. Many superhero fans also enjoy the colorful characters and dramatic action of professional wrestling.”
Planet Comicon Kansas City has grown each year since it debuted in 1999. Last year’s event drew an attendance of 71,000 to Bartle Hall. The three-day event will feature 388,000 square feet of exhibit space.
Celebrity guests are a huge part Planet Comicon Kansas City’s appeal. The organizers promise many announcements over the coming weeks. Other celebrities announced for the event to date include fan favorite Felicia Day (Buffy, Dr. Horrible, The Guild) and three voice actresses from the anime series RWBY, Kara Eberly, Elizabeth Maxwell, and Arryn Zech. Comic book creators slated to appear include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman and the creative team of DC Comics’ Harley Quinn, Chard Hardin, Amanda Conner, and Jimmy Palmiotti.
The final roster will include more than 25 celebrities and 300 comics creators who will be available to meet with their fans.
