What is Planet Comicon Kansas City?
What started as a small gathering in Overland Park in 1999 has grown into one of the region’s largest and most popular fan events. Planet Comicon Kansas City features the best in comic books, fantasy, science fiction, television and movies.

When is Planet Comicon Kansas City?
Planet Comicon descends on Downtown Kansas City, taking over the Kansas City Convention Center (Bartle Hall) for three huge days, April 28-30.

In addition to the celebrity guests, Planet Comicon will welcome hundreds of featured creators, including legendary comics creators like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman and the creative team of DC Comics’ Harley Quinn, Chad Hardin, Amanda Conner, and Jimmy Palmiotti, X-Men writer Chris Claremont, and Dawn creator Joseph Michael Linsner. Plus, GoComics is bringing the biggest creator event in its history to Planet Comicon Kansas City with 30 of GoComics’ best creators in one convenient area!
Add to that legendary voice actors like John DiMaggio (Futurama, Adventure Time), Bret Iwan (Official Voice of Mickey Mouse), Tom Kane (Clone Wars, Rogue One), and four voice actors from the popular anime series RWBY and you’ll see why three days is barely enough to experience all that Planet Comicon has to offer!
What do I do when meeting these celebrities?
Play it cool! These celebrities are here to meet their fans. If you want an autograph or to take a selfie with them, there are costs for that, which are clearly posted. These transactions are typically cash-only so visit an ATM prior to arriving.
Planet Comicon Kansas City also offers professional photo opportunities with celebrities and those are available for purchase in designated areas.
What is cosplay?
While the celebrity and creator guests get a lot of attention, often times Planet Comicon’s cosplayers steal the show. Cosplay is the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, comic or video game. There will be thousands of fans attending the show dressed as their favorite fictional hero or heroine. Planet Comicon will also host internationally known cosplayers Jessica Nigri and Abby Darkstar, who will be in costume at the show all three days to meet fans and pose for pictures.
At Planet Comicon, your eyes will be in awe at the elaborate, detailed and fantastic costumes of fans celebrating their favorite works of art. The whole family can get involved as you capture pictures with fans cosplaying your favorite characters.
Planet Comicon recognizes excellence in all aspects of cosplay and hosts a number of contests designed to reward the workmanship and performance art of cosplay. There are contests for a variety of cosplay skill-levels.
Planet Comicon is dedicated to providing a safe and fun environment for all fans and while most cosplayers love it when you want to take a picture, Planet Comicon reminds fans to ask politely first. Planet Comicon requires all prop and costume weapons to be inspected and tagged at the check-in desk inside the convention center lobby.

GoComics.com Creator Showcase
One of Planet Comicon Kansas City’s special features this year is a collaborative showcase featuring GoComics and 30 of their best creators. GoComics is home to many of the most popular comics and cartoons in the world, including iconic cartoons Peanuts, Calvin and Hobbes, Garfield and Dilbert. Recent successes include FoxTrot, Pearls Before Swine, Get Fuzzy, and many more.
At Planet Comicon 2017, the GoComics.com Creator Showcase will bring together these critically acclaimed comic creators, in one special area, for a collaborative showcase featuring their creative work, autograph opportunities, memorabilia, and other special features.

Planet Entertainment Zone
Planet Comicon has endless entertainment for the whole family and another new feature for 2017 is the Planet Entertainment Zone (PEZ)! The PEZ features activities, interactive displays and demos along with a cosplay-oriented Makers space!
The PEZ will come alive throughout the convention weekend with activities from Legoland Discovery Center, National Wrasslin’ League, Worlds of Fun & Oceans of Fun, Tapcade, Kansas City Renaissance Festival, Kansas City Public Library, Mesner Puppet Theater, State Farm Video Game Lounge, Hammerspace Community Workshop, Science City at Union Station, Maker Faire Kansas City and many others!
Plus you can make a difference at Planet Comicon and participate in the Kansas City Zombie Walk for Hunger or be a superhero and donate blood to the Community Blood Center right on-site!

Does the fun ever end?
On Friday night, no! The first ever Planet Party on Barney features live music, dancing, cosplay and a wrestling showdown in Barney Allis Plaza!
As Planet Comicon winds down its first night, move over to Barney Allis Plaza from 6:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. for an amazing fun-filled evening for all ages! With food trucks, local KC brews, a Cosplay Masquerade Parade, and live music from Kansas City’s up and coming “Run With It” and “DJ Joe: The Mad Scientist”, the fun won’t stop.
The main event will feature professional wrestling matches from the National Wrasslin’ League! Enjoy family-friendly, storyline-driven programming and thrilling athletic action!
The Planet Party on Barney is for all ages and includes free entry with your Planet Comicon credentials!
Can I find collectibles at Planet Comicon?
Planet Comicon Kansas City offers one of the most expansive collections of exhibitor goods and memorabilia in the region. With over 250 different exhibitors, fans can get their hands on memorabilia, costumes, special collectibles, rare comics, custom art, autographed items and more.
Browsing 300,000+ square feet of exhibitor space, you can find almost anything at Planet Comicon to add to your cherished fan collection.
How do I get my credentials for Planet Comicon?
Planet Comicon offers a variety of admission options and passes are on- sale now and can be purchased at the Planet Comicon Kansas City website, www.planetcomicon.com. They will also be available at the door.
Hotel Packages and discounted memberships for active duty military, teachers and librarians are also available through the Planet Comicon website.
Children ages 7 and under are free.
A variety of advance admission options, including Fast Passes for all three days (online only) are available. Fast Pass Memberships allow attendees priority access to celebrity photo lines, seating areas, concession lines and other special features.
Autographs and photos from celebrity guests are not included with admission prices but Planet Comicon attendees have a variety of admission options to make the most of their convention-going experience!

Remember, a costume is NOT required for Planet Comicon. Come as you
