Stephen Amell might be best known for his title role in the hit The CW series Arrow, but he’s also known for playing Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.
Amell decided to pursue a career in acting when he was in his teens. He appeared in two episodes of Queer as Folk as the Liberty Ride spinning instructor in 2004. Amell also played Adam in the first season of the television series Dante’s Cove.
In 2007, Amell won a Gemini Award for his guest starring role on ReGenesis. That same year, he also was nominated for a Gemini Award in the best ensemble cast category for Rent-A-Goalie.
In 2010, Amell joined the cast of The Vampire Diaries as werewolf Brady for Season 2. The next year, he starred as Joran Van Der Sloot in the Lifetime film Justice for Natalee Holloway. That same year, he starred in Season 3 of HBO’s Hung as a busboy-turned-prostitute Jason, a younger rival “ho” to Thomas Jane’s Ray Drecker.
Amell also appeared as Jim in the fourth season of 90210, and had a recurring role on ABC’s Private Practice. He also played the role of Travis in Blue Mountain State.
In January 2012, Amell was cast as the lead for Arrow, a re-imagining of the comic book character Green Arrow. Amell joined the TMNT film Out of the Shadows as vigilante Casey Jones, which was released last June.
Amell is married to actress and model Cassandra Jean, and the couple have a daughter.
Amell is involved with many charities, including F-ck Cancer, and he and his business partner Andrew Harding are the founders of the Nocking Point Winery.
