Star of The Walking Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy and its upcoming sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Michael Rooker is probably best known for his blue-skinner space pirate alien from 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Yondu Udonta. And it’s a role he’ll reprise later this spring in that film’s highly anticipated sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Rooker also is known as that character fans love to hate, Merle Dixon, on AMC’s The Walking Dead.
Rooker is part of Kevin Smith’s View Askew universe, appearing in the cult hit Mallrats, and reprising his role as Mr. Svenning for the upcoming sequel, Mallbrats.
Rooker has thrilled fans for decades with complex portrayals of characters audiences can’t help but cheer on despite their dark personas. He made his film debut in 1986 playing the title role in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, a film based on the confessions of serial killer Henry Lee Lucas. He has since appeared in numerous movies including Mississippi Burning, Sea of Love, Days of Thunder, JFK, Cliffhanger, Tombstone and Rosewood. He’s also had some meaty roles in films like The 6th Day, Jumper and Bolden.
He has a prolific relationship with writer and director James Gunn, showing up not only in his Guardians of the Galaxy, but also Slither, Super and the upcoming film Experiment.
Rooker has guest starred on several television shows including Stargate: SG-1, CSI: Miami, Las Vegas, JAG, Numb3rs, Law & Order, Chuck, Criminal Minds, Psych, Burn Notice and Archer. He added his voice talents to Activision’s The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. His other videogame voiceover work includes as Mike Harper, the lead character in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and the villain Vikke in Lollipop Chainsaw.
