Henry Winkler earned his big break playing Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli in the 50s-themed sitcom Happy Days. Fonzie quickly became a 1970s icon that led Henry into more notable roles through the late 80s and on.
After his decade-long run with Happy Days, Winkler went on to starring, supporting, recurring and voice roles in shows like Monty, The Practice, Clifford’s Puppy Days, Out of Practice, Sit Down Shut Up, Parks and Recreation, Children’s Hospital, Royal Pains, and Arrested Development. On the big screen, Winkler created memorable rolls alongside Adam Sandler in The Waterboy, Little Nicky, and Click as well as an uncredited yet unforgettable cameo in Scream. Recently Winkler took a reality TV tour alongside another of our 20th anniversary guests William Shatner on the NBC reality comedy series Better Late Than Never.
After 45 years in the entertainment industry, Winkler won his very first Prime Time Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in the HBO series Barry. Prior to that, Winkler has been nominated for 14 Golden Globe, Daytime Emmy and Primetime Emmy Awards. Winkler was awarded Best Actor in 1977-1978 with Happy Days, Outstanding Children’s Special in 1995 for All the Kids Do It and Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program in 2005 for Clifford’s Puppy Days Outside of film, Winkler has co-authored 12 children’s novels and co-founded the Children’s Action Network, which provided free immunizations to over 200,000 children.
